How fast do intangible assets depreciate? Fast...

In our book we document  the answer: quite fast.  I had not seen this survey by Richard Hall
https://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/2486410.pdf which is a survey of CEOs asking them " The question 'Given a reasonably high priority how many years would it take to recreate the current reputation of your company if you had to start from scratch? was also asked with respect to: The reputation of product range; The know- how of employees; the know-how of suppliers; the know-how of distributors; and networks. The average replacement period estimated for each intangible resource is shown in Table 2."

Teaching Note: Bank of England Monetary Policy Report May 2020

Here are some notes on this report.

Various teaching links

1. Price gouging.
Lots of material in the FT, including this https://www.ft.com/content/8db033ac-5d11-11ea-b0ab-339c2307bcd4.

2. More on nightclubs and male and female models.  We’ve been talking about networks and demand curves, why celebrities go to nightclubs and male and female models.  Well guess what: David Edmonds of https://socialsciencebites.libsyn.com/ has a podcast with a female model about going to night clubs and how much she gets paid.  Who says economics isn’t relevant to the world?
